Born in 1972, Serkan Taranoğlu completed his undergraduate education at Abant İzzet Baysal University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Economics.
Taranoğlu started working at the Prime Ministery in 1997, he worked in State Ministry Responsible for privatization as executive assistant, after working for a time at the Ottoman Archives headquarters, as Turkey Taekwondo Federation board member, as Türkiye gübre sanayi A.S supervisory board membership duties.
He served in the Prime Ministry until 2004, after which he held various positions at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
After leaving the public office for a while, Taranoğlu first served as the Advisor to the President of the Sakarya Chamber of Commerce and Industry and later as the Advisor to the President of TOBB M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu (2011-2015). While fulfilling this task, Turkey Rowing Federation appointed him as Vice President of the task also, published on 24/08/2015 in the Official Gazette, 3 Decree assigning him as Economy Minister Counselor, he reverted to public services.
After working at the Ministry of Economy for a while, he was appointed to the Presidency Economic Monitoring and Coordination. After nearly 1.5 years of service, he was appointed as the Advisor to the President by the Presidential Decree of the Official Gazette dated January 8, 2019.
Taranoğlu is a columnist on some internet portals and he is married to Yonca Taranoğlu.
